Kids
Children are welcomed as equals in the inclusive, radical and peaceable kindom of God. During worship, we invite children to participate fully, and many under six who cannot read yet find room to dance during songs, to ask questions during the children’s homilies, and to act as ushers during the collection.
Families
Mota is made up of many kinds of families, all of which are welcome to share in the life of our community. We are small enough to allow an environment where children are nurtured by a church family that supports the spiritual development of the children through active participation in our worship services and through religious education programs. From pre-school through high school, our children are invited to see their stories as part of God's story and we all delight in watching those stories unfold as they grow. Parents too are supported by child care options during our services and programs, and through fellowship with others who share their hopes and dreams for their children.
Teaching Our Children
At Mission of the Atonement, we try to highlight the best of both our Roman Catholic and Lutheran traditions. We invite children to take seriously both the Bible and their life experience. As well as biblical and traditional content, our teachers emphasize community, respect, care for one another and the earth, the call to service in the world, the wideness of God’s mercy and the unending array of inclusive names and metaphors for God.
Teens
Our teenagers come together at least twice a month, for youth group, social activities and service events. Teens are integral to our worship experience. We invite teens to lead our singing, to serve in worship as readers and sometimes homilists, and to organize an entire service once a year. A youth mission trip is an important annual piece of our youth group life. Confirmation classes are ongoing and ecumenical, and the rite of confirmation takes place about every other year.
